In one instance, Peters kicked out a car’s back window to steal the radio, and in the other he made off with an iPod and iPhone, according to courtroom testimony.

Peters was convicted of possession of a controlled substance in 2008, court records show. Between 2007 and 2009 he had been arrested multiple times for trespassing and damage, though the charges were later dropped.

He was facing a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison on the most recent charges and pleaded guilty before Cook County Judge John J. Hynes in exchange for a six-year sentence and the possibility of joining a boot camp program.

The 175 days Peters has spent in prison thus far will be credited to his sentence, Hynes said.
