Teacher Train Death Ruled a Suicide

Mark Reilly, a teacher in District 146, died Friday from multiple injuries after being struck by a Metra train, according to autopsy results.

The Cook County medical examiner's office has ruled the death of a District 146 teacher on Friday a suicide.

Mark Reilly, a fifth grade teacher at Memorial School, died of multiple injuries from being struck by a train, according to the results of an autopsy performed Saturday. Results from additional testing won't be available for two months.

Reilly was hit by inbound Metra train No. 402 at around 6 a.m. on Friday near the 80th Avenue Station.

District officials said Reilly was a well liked and that his "outstanding teaching and his influences on his students will always be remembered."

Crisis support services are being offered to students and staff next week, according to a school district new release.

Reilly taught fifth grade for nine years in the district.
