Update: One Dead, Three Injured in Three-car Accident on 167th Street

Two cars are off the road, with reports of extrication. Traffic on 167th Street eastbound is snarled as crews work the scene.

Update: One person is confirmed dead, while three others were injured and transported to area hospitals, Sun-Times Media reports.

One of the injured was taken to Christ Medical Center, while the other two injured were transported to South Suburban Hospital, the report said.

167th Street remains blocked off between Central and Cicero avenues, due to the investigation, according to the report.

----

Crews are on the scene of a three-car accident with reports of extrication, near 167th and Lockwood Avenue.

An SUV appears to have driven off the road, on the eastbound side of the street. A four-door Sedan is off the road on the westbound side of the street, facing the wrong direction. Another SUV with heavy front-end damage is on the westbound side of the street. Debris is scattered across the roadway.

Witnesses say one woman was transported from the scene via ambulance.

Three fire departments are on the scene. Oak Forest police have confirmed there were at least two people transported to area hospitals.

This was probably caused from someone trying to get out of the Gingerwood subdivision over the last few years the traffic has increased so much that it is extremely difficult and quite dangerous when trying to take a left hand turn onto 167th we need a stop light!! Neighborhood agrees.
Dm March 2, 2013 at 03:04 pm
Jessie Estastes could use a stop light too.
Bob Laird March 2, 2013 at 07:16 pm
looking at the pictures, with the damage to the cars and debris scattered all over, at least one of these vehicles had to be really flying.

I live in tghe gingerwood sub div and I do not agree that we need a stop light. There is plenty of viewable road that can be seen both ways when pulling out of there. What that area needs is a lower speed limit. I know its a straight away, and its already low at 35, but people treat it like a speed zone and are pushing 50 plus all the time. The police are always around in the barbs parking lot to trap speeders, but that doesnt seem to stop them much.

I heard the driver of the Hummer was a 22 year old drunk driver who swerved into oncoming traffic. One of the cars he was driving toward then t-boned another vehicle. From what I understand this had nothing to do with any cars coming in or out of Gingerwood

The Southtown just updated their article-the driver of the black SUV caused the accident and charges are pending against him. He's an Orland Park/Crestwood firefighter.

For your information M the driver of the Hummer is a very close and personal friend to me and my family. He was not drunk, not speeding, and he is not 22. Nor is the accident his fault! So before you write nonsense on the Internet get your facts straight! This really makes me mad!

I live down lockwood, and love this area. I dont agree we need a street light there. It is a bad road for speeders, but most people, that come driving by dont live around area. By the time they see speed limit sign they assume it is a higher speed limit and its too late. I believe everyone around this area knows where the police wait for speeders. It is sad to see a loss of a young woman, but i hope the people that know the area do not get picked on for a small couple miles over limit. I give my blessing to those hurt.

Does Illinois State Law require an automatic blood- alchohol test to be preformed in the event of a death in a vehicular accident? Wonder why he was charged with reckless homicide?
Felicia DePyper March 4, 2013 at 06:39 pm
Don't always believe what you hear. The media sometimes gets it wrong also. Not say that is the case here at all, The only way you will know the whole truth is to sit in the court room during trail. Don't assume or listen to hear say, that is how Rumors form.
Baba Wawa March 4, 2013 at 07:51 pm
Because that's what it is, reckless homicide, 720 ILCS 5/9-3(a). You want it to be murder?
And yes, state law says that anyone arrested for a motor vehicle accident involving death or personal injury is subject to chemical testing of his or her blood, breath or urine for the presence of alcohol, other drug or drugs, intoxicating compound or compounds, or any combination thereof ... if the testing occurs within 12 hours of the time of the occurrence of the accident that led to his or her arrest. 625 ILCS 5/11-401(b-1)
Keith March 5, 2013 at 11:14 am
Baba Wawa- Thanks for the information, and no I didn't want it to be murder. Interresting quote of the law,"if the testing occurs within 12 hours of the time of the occurrence of the accident that led to his or her arrest". 625 ILCS 5/11-401(b-1) This sort of blows the rest of the quote. Don't you seriously believe that the longer the period of time that exists between the accident and the testing will effect the accuracy of the results? Just sayin. Where did you find this information?
Baba Wawa March 5, 2013 at 12:17 pm
Chapter 625 is part of the Motor Vehicle Code. Here's the particular section: http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs4.asp?ActID=1815&ChapterID=49&SeqStart=107600000&SeqEnd=109200000

He was not sober. He admitted he was on prescription pain killers. That could possibly be just as bad as drinking.

Turns out it was a minor crash, according to state police. No one was injured enough to require aRead More trip in an ambulance. Two cars were involved in the collision, which happened at about 2 p.m.
Local Citizen June 18, 2013 at 02:01 pm
I'd also contact whichever bank has this in foreclosure. If they're the legal owners, then they'reRead More responsible. Maybe the threat of a lawsuit if someone gets sick or injured might prompt them to take action.
Concerned Citizen June 18, 2013 at 02:31 pm
The problem is that nobody knows or can locate the bank who owns this property. I have contacted aRead More friend of mine whom is a realtor and there saying it's owned by HUD! Well good luck getting in touch with them!
Concerned Citizen June 18, 2013 at 05:47 pm
Well I just ran into an inspector sent by the bank who entered the property and said that the coinsRead More have eaten through the ceiling of he living room! I knew it!!!

We too live in Parkside and I couldn't agree with you more! I love your sign! I have a three yearRead More old and I refuse to let him play on the last 15 feet of the driveway due to the speeding cars. Maybe a speed bump?!
dalygirl June 16, 2013 at 09:25 am
We've looked into a speed bump too. Make yourself a sign, call the Tinley Police and ask for theRead More electronic monitoring sign, call the village and complain, and be pro-active. Someone from the village saw my sign and has informed me that the village will be putting up speed limit signs and caution - kids playing signs this week. Good luck!!
