Tinley Firefighters Rescue 2 Dogs, Guinea Pig From Flames

Firefighters, residents and furry friends remained unscathed in a Tuesday afternoon house fire in Tinley Park.

Two dogs and a guinea pig were safe and sound Tuesday night after an afternoon fire in a home on West 183rd Street in .

The animals, and their owners, were uninjured in the blaze, Chief Ken Dunn said. Crews were called to the home at 9321 W. 183rd St. at 3:23 p.m. and when they got there, flames were visible from a second-story window. 

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Cummins said the fire was under control in about 10 minutes. The home's residents were outside when engines rolled up, he noted.

The cost of damages to the home was still unknown around 6:30 p.m. The fire's origin also remained under investigation, Dunn said.

Frankfort and Mokena firefighters were on hand to assist during the incident, which wasn't far from the intersection of 183rd Street and La Grange Road.

Cummins stressed that the neighboring crews are, "a big help to us in times like this."
