Tinley Men Bring Tension and Tears to Mokena White Castle

Mokena police responded to a ruckus at an area restaurant last week.

When police were called to the Mokena White Castle last week for a fight, they said one man resisted arrest and another began crying because he wasn't able to order his meal.

Police cited Kevin P. Gunkel, 21, of the 8400 block of Brookpoint Court in Tinley Park, on Thursday for disorderly conduct and interference with a village officer, according to the report. Patrick M. Burns, 21, of the 8500 block of Hollybrook Lane in Tinley Park, was cited for criminal trespassing and interference with a village officer.

A White Castle employee called police to the restaurant at 9550 W. 191st St. in Mokena when a group of six men were getting ready to fight just before 2 a.m., Mokena police said.

The employee said she saw two of the men arguing and a third man trying to break up the brawl.

Officers tried to arrest Gunkel, but he resisted, the report said. Burns and others were escorted out by police a few minutes later, and Burns began to cry because he wanted to eat, police said. He refused to leave with the others and was thereafter arrested.

Mokena freelance writer Tom Ritter contributed to this report.
