Tinley Park 80-Year-Old Dies After Local Car Crash

A man who was being treated at an area hospital died on Saturday.

An 80-year-old local man died Friday morning from injuries he sustained earlier in the week in a car crash.

Joseph Melilli, of the 9100 block of 174th Street, was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. Friday, reports the Chicago Tribune. Melilli was being treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the story said.

The accident occurred on the day after Christmas near the intersection of 171st Street and 88th Avenue.

"An autopsy conducted on Saturday determined Melilli died from multiple injuries he sustained from a motor vehicle accident," the Tribune reports. "Heart disease was listed as a secondary cause of death, according to the (Cook County medical examiner's) office."

Additional information about the crash was unavailable Sunday.
