Tinley Park Man Accused of Sexually Abusing 13-Year-Old in Mokena

A local man was arrested by Mokena police this past week.

Mokena police arrested a 20-year-old man this week and charged him with aggravated criminal sexual abuse after a reported incident involving a 13-year-old girl, according to Will County court records.

David J. Potter, of the 17800 block of 66th Court, was charged Tuesday. Police said he had sex with a 13-year-old girl sometime in October, according to county records.

Mokena Police Cmdr. Dan Rankovich said Potter met his victim over the summer, reported the Sun-Times Media

“He befriended her at a roller rink in Tinley Park, and in October, they engaged in consensual sexual contact at a park (in Mokena),” Rankovich told the Sun-Times.

The parents contacted police once they learned of the encounter, according to the article.

"The juvenile was given a 'victim-sensitive' interview with the Will County state’s attorney’s office before Potter was brought in for questioning, during which he admitted having sexual contact with the girl," the Sun-Times reported following an interview with Rankovich

Potter was in the Will County Jail this week on a $150,000 bond. If convicted, he faces between three to seven years in prison.
