Tinley Park Man Smuggled 2,000 Packs of Cigs into Cook County: Police

Ahmeed Damoony, 22, of Tinley Park, is accused of having more than 2,000 packs of cigarettes brought from St. Louis that lacked a Cook County tax stamp.

A Tinley Park man who police say was running cigarettes from Missouri to sell in Cook County appeared in bond court Monday.

Ahmed Damoony, 22, was charged with possessing more than 1,000 packs of contraband cigarettes, Cook County Sheriff's police said. Bond was set at $100,000.

Authorities got wise to the alleged cigarette-running operation after Damoony was stopped for speeding by Justice cops on Friday night, police said.

During a search, a Justice officer uncovered 2,020 packs of cigarettes in Damoony's vehicle that lacked Cook County tax stamps, police said. The case was turned over to Cook County Sheriff's detectives, who determined that Damoony was buying cigarettes in St. Louis and selling them in south suburban Cook County.

The county loses $3 in revenue for every pack of cigarettes sold without the tax stamp, police said.

Damoony is due Tuesday in Bridgeview court.
