Tinley Roofer Dies After Downtown Chicago Rope Accident

A local man was pronounced dead shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday.

A man who was working on a roofing job at a River North building died Thursday after he became entangled in a rope, according to a report published by the Chicago Tribune.

Craig Oleksy, 50, of the 17300 block of Ottawa Avenue was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. July 28 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to the story. His death came a few hours after he was injured in an accident in the 300 block of West Superior Street in Chicago.

He was doing roof work at the downtown building around noon when he got tangled in a rope. Police told the Tribune that Oleksy’s chest was crushed in the accident.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was in critical condition until he later died.
