Tinley's Family Harvest Church Pummeled With Paintballs

Police arrested two men this week, saying they admitted to shooting paintballs at a local church because they were bored.

Two men were arrested Sunday night, police said, after they shot up Family Harvest Church with paintballs.

Cody J. Young, 23, of the 9200 block of Ethyl Lane and Robert M. Valdez, 22, of the 8000 block of Timbers Point Drive, were arrested around 5:20 p.m. were called to the church around that time by parishioners who said the building and vehicles in the parking lot were being pummeled by paintballs.

When the cops got to Family Harvest, 18500 92nd Ave., they said they saw Valdez and Young holding guns, walking to the back porch of what they later learned was Young's residence. While Young stepped inside, an officer called Valdez to the fence line, according to the report.

"I asked him why they were shooting paintballs at cars and the building and he shrugged his shoulders," the report stated. "He admitted that they were shooting paintballs because they were bored."

The two turned over their weapons upon request and police said the paintballs they were filled with matched that in the parking lot and on the building of the nearby church. Police said they believed the two were also responsible for past paintball-related incidents at the church, as well as a call they received earlier that day from a UPS driver in the area whose truck had been hit, the report said.

Both men were arrested. Each was charged with three counts of criminal defacement of property. Their bail was set at $1,500. They posted bond and were released.
