Two-Time July Arrestee Now Faces Weapon Charge

A man who was accused July 1 of reckless driving and fleeing police was arrested again seven days later, when police said he brought handfuls of ammo and a pistol to an ex-girlfriend's. The fully-loaded weapon was hanging on his motorcycle, officers said.

A man who was accused July 1 of reckless driving and eluding police on his motorcycle was reportedly arrested again seven days later, when he was charged with a weapons-related offense.

Frank N. Golick, 24, of the 16900 block of Gaynelle Road in , reportedly showed up July 8 at the residence of someone he once dated, with a handgun strapped to his 2004 Yamaha motorcycle. The report indicated that Golick was asking that the woman return his clothing. She refused to do so unless he returned her house keys, police said.

The .380-caliber pistol Golick was carrying was inside a black plastic gun case that was hanging off the right side of the bike, police said.

"(An officer) checked the case which has no locking device on it and observed the frame and slide of a Taurus PT738 .380-caliber pistol," according to the report. "The slide had the barrel of the gun and recoil spring in it. Next to the pistol were two fully loaded magazines, each loaded with six rounds."

Illinois gun laws state that weapons and ammunition must be separated during transport. Firearms must be unloaded, according to the statute, and enclosed in a different case.

Both the gun and its ammunition were accessible to Golick, police noted. There was also a box with 38 additional rounds inside the case, according to the report. 

"(The) suspect stated that the gun was his and that he didn't know he could not carry it that way," the report said, of Golick's statement at the .

He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
