Wheelie Poppin' Rider Sends Cops on Chase

Tinley Park police said they recently chased a rider who was cruising more than 20 mph over the posted limit and riding on one wheel along Harlem Avenue.

Police said a 24-year-old motorcyclist riding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit and weaving in and out of traffic refused to stop for police last week.

An officer first saw Frank N. Golick, of the 17500 block of South 68th Court in around 8:30 p.m. June 30 on Harlem Avenue near 167th Street, where he was riding his 2004 Yamaha sport bike on only the back wheel, according to the report. The officer activated the vehicle's siren and emergency lights and began pursuing Golick, police said. Golick refused to stop for police, they said.

A backup officer eventually joined the pursuit, which led him to the offender as he entered Interstate-80. The registration for the motorcycle showed it belonged to Golick.

On Saturday, two officers went to Golick's residence in Tinley Park to arrest him. Golick reportedly denied running from officers, saying he was selling the bike on CraigsList and another rider had it during the time of the pursuit. Police said they recognized Golick as the rider.

"I never asked Golick why he ran from me but he stated, 'I didn't run from you,'" an officer wrote in the report.

He was charged with reckless driving and fleeing and eluding a peace officer. His bail was set at $2,000.
