Woman Jumped from LaGrange Bridge Onto I-80: Police

No charges are pending against a woman who jumped from the interstate overpass Saturday afternoon.

Authorities are not pursuing charges against a woman who jumped from the LaGrange Road bridge onto Interstate 80 Saturday afternoon.

Emergency personnel were called about a woman who fell to Interstate 80 from the LaGrange overpass around 1:45 p.m. Saturday, according to the Mokena Fire Protection District.

“She was in one of the eastbound lanes,” said Mokena Fire Chief Howard Stephens. “No vehicles struck her.”

The woman was transported from the highway to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, and was then taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment, according to the Illinois State Police.

No charges have been filed against her, and none are pending, as of Monday afternoon, according to ISP.

Readers commented that the woman was seen smoking a cigarette and standing on the opposite side of the guardrail from the road before jumping.

The woman’s condition was not available Monday afternoon.
