Dwyane Wade's Ex Says Cops and Lawyer Schemed to Get Her Jailed

CHICAGO — Fresh off his NBA Championship choke, Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade now can turn his attention to a lawsuit filed by his ex-wife against his divorce attorney and a south suburban police department.

Siohvaughn Funches-Wade — Wade's onetime high school sweetheart — claims Wade's pal, New Lenox Mayor Tim Balderman, conspired with Dolton police and Wade's attorney, James Pritikin, to get her arrested in June 2012 on trumped-up child abduction charges, according to a federal lawsuit.

Funches-Wade says the cops roughed her up when they took her into custody for not complying with a judicial order to turn over her two sons to Wade, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

The charges later were dropped, but Wade's lawyer referred to the incident in their ongoing child-custody disputes.

How does Balderman figure into this bizarre tale? Earlier in his career as a police officer, Balderman worked personal security jobs with Chicago athletes and that's how he became friends with Wade. Every year for the last six years, Wade and the village of New Lenox have sponsored an elite high school basketball camp in town.

The lawsuit seeks more than $50,000 in damages.

This is just the latest legal twist in a long-running feud between Wade and the mother of his children.

Wade and Funches, who met as children and grew up together in Robbins, dated through their high school years at Richards High School in Oak Lawn. Funches told various news organizations that Wade would come to her family's home to escape his own troubled household.

They lived together during his years at Marquette University, eventually marrying in 2002, the year before he entered the NBA draft. But by 2007, they split. Six years of legal wrangling in divorce court would ensue.

In 2011, Wade won full custody of his sons.

Funches-Wade sued the basketball star in 2013 to get cash from endorsement deals with T-Mobile, Staples and Gatorade, claiming she couldn't pay her bills.

In July 2013, as their divorce became final in a Chicago court, Wade refused to allow his ex to see their kids for a scheduled visit in Miami. Instead, he asked a Florida court to force her to undergo a psychological evaluation.

At the time, she staged a protest outside a Chicago courthouse, which the Sun-Times recorded on video.

Wade and his ex reportedly reached a $5 million divorce settlement that also gave her ownership of their South Holland mansion.

In December 2013, Funches-Wade sued in Cook County, claiming Wade beat her during their marriage, reports the Chicago Sun-Times. 

Funches-Wade also claims her ex gave her a sexually transmitted disease, according to HollywoodLife.com, citing court documents filed earlier this year.
