How Is the Village Preparing for Possible Severe Storms?

With potentially nasty weather in Wednesday's forecast, the Village of Tinley Park has been preparing since Tuesday night, said Pat Carr, the director of the village's Emergency Management Agency.

As with past possibilities of severe, village departments, along with the Village Board and administrative staff, have been updated on the forecast and gone over action plans between Tuesday, June 11, and Wednesday, June 12, Carr stated in an email.

Here are what some of the village's agencies are doing in advance of possible thunderstorms, hail, flooding and tornadoes, according to Carr:

• Tinley Park Fire Department: Extra shift crews will report to the department's four stations at noon.
• Tinley Park Police Department: The police will operate as normal.
• Emergency Management Agency and 911 Command Center: The village will open its Emergency Operations Center, the agency's command "bunker" in the fire department's station 1, and the 911 center will be fully staffed.
• Public Works: The department has checked equipment and supplies, such as pumps, chain saws, barricades and chippers. Pump station generators also will be checked, and workers will keep tabs on the water levels of local ponds.

Thanks to the village's Graphic Information System, officials will be able to track where the flood prone areas are and plan accordingly, Carr said.
