Need to Register to Vote? Do it at Village Event Thursday

Plus, Patch lists the information you need on how and where to register to vote if you can't make the registration drive at Bettenhausen Recreation Center.

Just because the election is in November, that doesn't mean you have that long to register to vote if you haven't already.

The deadline for voter registration is Oct. 9, and the Village of Tinley Park, in conjunction with the Tinley Park Park District, is holding a special event this week to sign up residents.

The event runs from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Bettenhausen Recreation Center. You're qualified to register if you are:

  • a U.S. citizen
  • at least 18 years old by the election (Nov. 6)
  • a resident of their precinct at least 30 days before the election.

You must have two pieces of identification to register, and one must include your current address. These forms of ID are acceptable:

  • Illinois driver’s license
  • Illinois state ID
  • employee or student ID
  • credit card
  • Social Security card
  • mail postmarked to your current address
  • valid U.S. passport
  • birth certificate
  • utility bill in your name

If you have questions about the event and voter registration, call the Tinley Park Village Clerk's office at 708-444-5000.

If you can't make the event, there are other ways to register. Here's a quick break down of how to do it.
