Need to Register to Vote? Do it at Village Event Thursday

Plus, Patch lists the information you need on how and where to register to vote if you can't make the registration drive at Bettenhausen Recreation Center.

Just because the election is in November, that doesn't mean you have that long to register to vote if you haven't already.

The deadline for voter registration is Oct. 9, and the Village of Tinley Park, in conjunction with the Tinley Park Park District, is holding a special event this week to sign up residents.

The event runs from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 at the Bettenhausen Recreation Center. You're qualified to register if you are:

  • a U.S. citizen
  • at least 18 years old by the election (Nov. 6)
  • a resident of their precinct at least 30 days before the election.

You must have two pieces of identification to register, and one must include your current address. These forms of ID are acceptable:

  • Illinois driver’s license
  • Illinois state ID
  • employee or student ID
  • credit card
  • Social Security card
  • mail postmarked to your current address
  • valid U.S. passport
  • birth certificate
  • utility bill in your name

Mail-in voter application forms should be completed and returned to the Cook County Clerk's office, postmarked by Oct. 9. An application form also can be mailed to you if you call (312) 603-0906.

WILL COUNTY

Mail-in voter application forms should be completed and returned to the Will County Clerk's office, postmarked by Oct. 9. The application can be found on the clerk's website.

Applications should be mailed to: Nancy Schultz Voots, Will County Clerk; 302 N. Chicago St.; Joliet, IL 60432.

Online

You can register online with the Illinois State Board of Elections. You must have a printer or provide an email to complete your online application. You can find the online application at the state's website.
