Pride, Joy, Fear and Disbelief at bin Laden Death

Happiness, relief and fear of repercussions were on the minds of commuters at Tinley Park's 80th Avenue Metra station Monday morning in the wake of the death of the man who ordered the Sept. 11 attacks.

"(I'm) joyful and a little apprehensive about taking mass transit," said Laurie Krause of Orland Hills.

The 80th Avenue Metra station in Tinley Park is a cluster of people every morning, some laughing, joking and meeting commuter friends, others glued to electronic devices or scowling alone. A topic on many commuters minds today was President Obama's announcement that Osama bin Laden had been killed in Pakistan.

A few people expressed doubt Osama bin Laden had actually been killed.

"I can say if it is true, good," said Carol Tenuto of Tinley Park.

Others were concerned about who might fill bin Laden's position, both as official leader of al-Qaeda and symbolic leader of anti-American sentiment abroad.

"I don't think we should be celebrating yet," said Brenda Franco of Tinley Park. "He's one person. There's 10,000 billion more of him out there."
