Quick Facts about Tinley's New Local Sales Tax

How does Tinley's new .75 percent local sales tax compare to others in the area?

Tinley Park trustees Tuesday gave final approval to a .75 percent Home Rule Sales Tax. The tax will take effect July 1, and will apply to most purchases, excluding groceries, prescription medications and vehicles.

It's expected to generate $5.4 million in additional revenue for the Village, helping to offset anticipated increases in expenses and those surpassing revenue.

But what does that mean?

  • Sales tax in the Cook County portion of Tinley Park bumps up to 8.75 percent
  • Sales tax in Will County portion bumps up to 7.75 percent
  • Could cost the average household $123 annually.
  • Money will be used to fund Emerald Ash Borer removal and replacement, street repairs, and inflationary expense increases
In the chart, we also compare surrounding Home Rule sales tax rates and total tax rates.
