Quick Facts about Tinley's New Local Sales Tax

How does Tinley's new .75 percent local sales tax compare to others in the area?

Tinley Park trustees Tuesday gave final approval to a .75 percent Home Rule Sales Tax. The tax will take effect July 1, and will apply to most purchases, excluding groceries, prescription medications and vehicles.

It's expected to generate $5.4 million in additional revenue for the Village, helping to offset anticipated increases in expenses and those surpassing revenue.

But what does that mean?
  • Sales tax in the Cook County portion of Tinley Park bumps up to 8.75 percent
  • Sales tax in Will County portion bumps up to 7.75 percent
  • Could cost the average household $123 annually.
  • Money will be used to fund Emerald Ash Borer removal and replacement, street repairs, and inflationary expense increases
In the chart, we also compare surrounding Home Rule sales tax rates and total tax rates.

See how Tinley's stacks up.

12 ,000,000 train station is an example of the bafoonery running this village. I'm sure that's not a one time event and other excess spending is the norm by the fat cat multi year mayor of TP

Susan, your exactly right, the politicans count on minority votes so they take from middle class for their low class programs for votes. Most minority groups vote DEMOCRAT, and who is controlling everything. Every so often we need a REVOLUTION IT IS TIME FOR ONE!!!

Jim We will definately buy all significant purchases out of Tinley Park due to the increase imposed as of July 1. This is probably the only choice we have since our elected officials have taken the tax & spend approach to government. I hope that Tinley Park businesses support others for local government offices as this policy will certainly hurt their bottom line..
