Rush's Forum to Answer Questions About Health Care Act

U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush is hosting an informational event about the federal Affordable Care Act on Saturday at Tinley Park's Central Middle School.

U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-1st District) and his office will be holding two free forums this month to help educate the residents in his district about the Affordable Care Act and how it will affect them.

"This is [Rush's] way to make sure the 1st Congressional District constituents are informed and to get all the benefits of the act," said Debra Johnson, the communications director for Rush's office in Springfield.

The first forum is at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Central Middle School in Tinley Park. Former Deputy Gov. Louanner Peters, now the executive director for EntireCare, a segment of Healthcare Consortium of Illinois, will be the moderator, and the guest speakers will include:

  • Brenda Delgado from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
  • Brian Gorman, director of outreach and consumer education for the  Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace
  • Sidney Thomas from the Cook County Bureau of Health Services
  • Orlando Jones, legislative aide for Rush
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act—also known ask the Affordable Care Act or simply Obamacare—is the 2010 law that hopes to overhaul the U.S. health-care system so that all Americans are insured and can afford insurance.

Johnson emphasized that this forum isn't just for individuals with personal health insurance questions. It also will cover how the act affects small business owners and what they should know, she said.

Although the forum is free, people wishing to attend must register by emailing congressrushdistrictevents@mail.house.gov or calling Rush's Chicago office at (773)-224-6500.
