State Extends Deadline for Candidate Filings

Candidates wanting to run for offices up for election in April election have a little more time to turn in their petitions thanks to the Illinois General Assembly.

The deadline has been extended until Wednesday, Dec. 26, and petitions to run in the April 9 election must be turned in by 5 p.m. that day to the Tinley Park Village Clerk's office, according to a village press release.

The original deadline—Monday, Dec. 24—was changed because many clerk's offices throughout the state are closed or open limited hours on that day, which is Christmas Eve, the release stated. Candidates can begin turning in petitions

Some of the local offices up for election include:

• three village board seats held by trustees T.J. Grady, Brian Maher and Dave Seaman
• village clerk
• mayor

Mayor Ed Zabrocki has announced that he will be running for re-election, and he will have at least one challenger. In October, Tinley Park attorney Steve Eberhardt said he will be running for mayor in 2013.

Eberhardt petitioned to have an advisory referendum on village term limits added to the November ballot, and the non-binding measure passed.
