The Irish Parade With Beer? It Will Happen, With Limits

The village will loosen some of last year's restrictions on drinking during the popular yearly parade.

You will be able to watch with a beer in your hand this year – with very specific limits.

While last year, the village enacted rules keeping all alcohol specifically within the bar area of any bar serving booze, this year the restrictions have been lightened a little.

"This year, we'll let them take liquor, beer, whatever onto the patio only," Mayor Ed Zabrocki said this week.

Last year's restrictions were due to fears of rowdy spillover from people who used to go to the South Side Irish parade in Beverly, Zabrocki said. That parade got canceled due to the mass public drunkenness it usually entailed.

After Tinley's parade, run by the Oak Park Avenue Mainstreet Association, went off smoothly last year, the village looked at relaxing some of the restrictions. But the mayor was very specific about where the booze will end.
