Tinley Officials Are Nearing the End of Their Search for a New Top Cop

Officials are hoping to have a decision "within a week" on who will take the helm of the Tinley Park Police Department, they said Monday. The chief position was vacated in May when Mike O'Connell passed away.

The search for a new chief is drawing to a close, officials said Monday.

They are about to conduct the last round of interviews with three final candidates, Brian Maher, trustee and chair of the Public Safety Committee, told Triblocal. A special Committee of the Whole meeting kicks off at 4 p.m. tonight to discuss the matter, confirmed Deputy Village Clerk Laura Godette.

She said Monday afternoon that no announcement is anticipated following the meeting's closed session, but relayed that officials hope to make a decision public within about a week.

“We expect to reach a consensus on who we’re going to make the offer to tonight,” Maher told Triblocal, noting that all three finalists are sitting police chiefs in Illinois.
