Tinley Park Memorial Day Round-Up

Here's a list of some local events honoring veterans.

When: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Where: , 17147 Oak Park Ave, Tinley Park, IL 60477
What: Tinley Park American Legion Post 615 and VFW Post 2791 will hold a caravan heading to four local cemeteries. At each one, the Honoe Guard will randomly select the grave of a veteran and perform a small ceremony, including prayers, presentation of a small floral arrangement, the playing of taps and a 21 gun salute.


When: 10:30 a.m.
Where: , 16250 Oak Park Ave, Tinley Park, IL 60477
What: The village's traditional ceremony, including the laying of a wreath. Guest speaker will be Vietnam War veteran William Conner. Patriotic music will be performed by the Victor J. Andrew High School Band and the invocation will be provided by Chaplain Sean Minor of American Legion Post 615. Chaplain Federico Herrera of VFW Post 2791 will provide the benediction. Kathleen Ernst, an Andrew High School student, will read her winning submission in the Voice of Democracy Essay Contest.

What: A half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on display through Memorial Day.
