native Pat Rea is joining his fellow Republicans Wednesday night for an act of patriotism that's a first even for a retired Army brigadier general.
The 72-year-old, who serves as the local Village Clerk, will be leading delegates while they recite the Pledge of Allegiance in Florida to open the evening session of the 2012 Republican National Convention. Mayor Ed Zabrocki said Rea's prestigious Army credentials and service during the Vietnam War from 1965-66 were "instrumental" in his selection.
"Of course this is exciting for Tinley Park!" Zabrocki said. "We're very proud of Pat and all his accomplishments."
Rea has been an active republican for years and is the committeeman for the Bremen Township Republican Organization. His recitation of the pledge will be broadcast on several national television networks starting at 6 p.m., he said in an e-mail to Patch.
