Village Wants to Turn 183rd St. and Oak Park Ave. Into Roundabout

Tinley Park officials are holding a public meeting next week to discuss plans for creating a roundabout at the intersection. What do you think of the possibility?

In communities around the country, roundabouts are being considered as ways to ease traffic congestion and improve safety at busy intersections. That's why Tinley Park is considering adding this type of road junction at 183rd Street and Oak Park Avenue.

A public meeting is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Central Middle School, to let officials present design plans for a potential roundabout at that intersection. Topics the meeting will address include:

  • the project's history
  • how pedestrians and bikers would use the roundabout
  • project timeline
  • police presentation on safety

Go to the village's website for information about the project, including schematics, visualizations and a detour map.
