Code red: Illinois' unemployment rate worse than every state but one

How does Illinois stack up against our neighbors in terms of unemployment? You can find that out here on our map of unemployment rates.

I guess Illinois has Rhode Island to thank. If not for the smallest state in the Union, Illinois would have the distinction of having the lowest unemployment rate in the country. As it is, we're number 49 out of 50. We mapped out the February unemployment rates of every state so you can see just how much Illinois stands out, especially compared to our neighbors.

And while Illinois' unemployment rate is 8.7 percent, plenty of cities in Illinois are even higher than that. How much higher? Well, there's one city that's almost at 17 percent. That city tops our top ten list of Illinois cities with the highest unemployment rates in February.
