Do You Live in One of the 50 Safest Cities in Illinois?
While violence continues to plague Chicago, we present the 50 cities around Illinois named the safest by the website Safewise.com.
Would you consider your hometown very safe? Or are you looking to move to a safer location in Illinois? We've got a list of the 50 safest cities in Illinois, headlined by Round Lake Park.
Before the list, however, we'd like to share with you some tips from Safewise about keeping your home safe from burglary, no matter which town you live in.
- Get a dog (or even a recording of a dog barking) to intimidate potential intruders (and if Fido can physically protect your home as well, even better)
- Install outdoor lighting so it’s both harder for criminals to hide in the shadows and so it looks like you are home, even when you aren’t (consider managing these, and even certain indoor lights, on a timer)
- Keep your yard tidy so there are fewer places for a burglar to hide, especially right outside windows
- Keep your travel plans off social media so people won’t know when your home may be unoccupied
- Remember to cancel your newspaper and mail deliveries
- Don’t keep valuables near windows where they can be seen from outside and possibly tempt passersby
