Madigan Fears Redistricting Reform; Could Term Limits be Coming for the Governor?

House Speaker Michael Madigan finally made a direct statement about Yes for Independent Maps.

“Over the last 50 years, five maps. Republicans have done one out of five. They’re angry, and this is part of their Republican politics. That’s all there is.”

Madigan, fresh off his near-unanimous reelection this week as head of the party, had plenty more to say about Yes for Independent Maps and the push for redistricting reform in Illinois. The longest-serving lawmaker in Illinois, Madigan would stand to lose a lot with redistricting reform.

Meanwhile, the two top Republicans in Springfield are pushing to have an amendment proposal get on the November ballot. Senate Republican leader Christine Radogno introduced a proposal for term limits for members of the executive branch and it was supported by House Republican leader Jim Durkin. The problem is the deadline to have the proposal pass through Springfield is May 5, just over a week away.
