Poll: Negative Ads Only Make a Small Dent in Bruce Rauner's Lead

A new We Ask America poll still has Bruce Rauner as the front-runner leading up to the March 18 Republican primary.

Over the past three weeks, forces aligned against Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner have launched a barrage of anti-Rauner ads over the airwaves, on social media and in print.

A new poll shows that, overall, the public isn’t buying it.

We Ask America came out with a poll showing that, while the anti-Rauner ads made a small dent, Rauner still has a large lead over his rivals Bill Brady, Dan Rutherford and Kirk Dillard.

Republican or Democrat? Crook or Con? I have such a hard time deciding. Hmmmm. I vote for McCloud's sack-o-crap. Smell is better than any Illinois politician.
Genvieve LaChappele February 28, 2014 at 07:09 PM
Quinn may easily win. Too many people depend on public aid. They will vote for their checks. Union members and welfare recipients will blindly vote for any Democrat. Just like Junior. Just sayin"
Richard Biegaj February 28, 2014 at 07:41 PM
Amazed at the number of Tea Party sympathizers posting here. Didn't realize Oak Park had so many defenders of the plutocracy. If you think Rauner's out to help the working class, you probably think Rahm's a terrific mayor of Chicago too. Get real people, Rauner is the quintessential 1%'er and he will trample on the working class. Not that Quinn's much better, but there is no way in hell that I'm voting for Rauner.
J. Geoff Rove February 28, 2014 at 07:42 PM
I find the Freedom PAC mailings from Proft on L.S.D. in Chicago comical. Very juvenile, but not surprising from Proft.

Next time anyone refers to public employees as "hogs at the trough", like Grumpy Old Man did above, be sure to tell a cop or a firefighter that when they're saving your sorry ass. Next time you meet with your kid's teacher, be sure to tell him or her that you think they're a hog at the trough, too. When it's 5 below zero and the letter carrier delivers your mail, open your door and call them a hog at the trough. And when you need help at the library, be sure to tell the librarian that he/she and all their ilk are hogs at the trough. I think Rauner's a far greater "hog at the trough" than any public employee I've ever dealt with.
McCloud February 28, 2014 at 08:33 PM
What working class is there to trample? 20 years of crooks in charge here in IL and we have some loon labeling Rauner as the bad guy. Good grief!
Richard Biegaj February 28, 2014 at 08:49 PM
McCloud: Are you joking? What working class is there to trample? Do you live in a gated community in Lake Forest? Do you honestly think there is no working class left in Illinois? If there's someone who's a loon, it's you.
McCloud February 28, 2014 at 09:24 PM
Honest is not in the cards for you, too obvious. Cretins like you are why this state is bankrupt, second highest unemployment rate, with crooks in lock down charge as long as people like you are out there. Let me guess, teacher, public union guy?
McCloud February 28, 2014 at 09:30 PM
Maybe dress up the class warfare a bit more, that angle worked before.
McCloud February 28, 2014 at 09:32 PM
What a douche.
Richard Biegaj February 28, 2014 at 10:15 PM
Wait. I'm a douche? You hide behind a lame tag like "McCloud" and you think you're not the douche. Too funny! Go have another drink.
Quincy Alexander February 28, 2014 at 10:22 PM
The State is Broke because those in charge Quinn et al have no self control. They Owe over $130 billion in unfunded liabilities and yet they keep adding to the pile of debt by adding new programs. Every time they save a dime they spend a dollar. This was once a great state it is now laughing stock around the USA and world. Investors cringe when they here there is an opportunity in Illinois. But hey a few (think Mr Rauner) people have made an enormous amount of money by having relationships with an even smaller number of people.
Max Smart March 01, 2014 at 03:30 PM
Richie, no one is casting dispersions upon the working class. It is the ones who claim to be their leaders that are the true enemy. A vote for quinn is a vote AGAINST Illinois and AGAINST America!
Richard Biegaj March 01, 2014 at 05:36 PM
Max - agreed. But I'm not going down the path with Rauner. Once again we get to cast our votes for who we feel is the lesser of two evils. Seems to be the case in almost every election. I feel like I'm usually voting against a candidate rather than voting for one. So sad. Take care.

The beauty of politics is that nobody agrees on anything because there are no actual truths to come to agreement on. :-)
Cheryl March 02, 2014 at 08:57 AM
We didn't even know anyone else besides Rauner was running. His and Pat Quinn are the only ads we have seen on TV.

Has anyone else noticed the frequency with which "news" on this site is posted by "Reboot Illinois". In case any one was curious as to who exactly "Reboot Illinois" is, please take a look at this link: http://shar.es/FFDtf Reboot Illinois is an internet propaganda device representing the interests of multi-millionaire Republican hedge fund managers. They seemingly have hijacked The Patch. Reboot Illinois is not some grass roots, unbiased, non-partisan group like they'd like you to believe. They carefully craft their message to appear that what they want is what's best for Illinois, but they consistently back Republican candidates with millions of dollars in donations. Don't be fooled by their phony Republican propaganda. They want Bruce Rauner as our next governor because they know that having him in the governor's mansion and Emmanuel as mayor of Chicago represents a potent combination of what's best for their bank accounts. I will not be surprised when my post gets removed from this site.
Debra Tamlo Szady March 02, 2014 at 07:56 PM
The last thing we need in Illinois is a Republican Governor - not that Quinn is good - but the record of Republican Governors across the country indicate higher unemployment rates, prohibiting ACA and the expansion of medicade, anti-lgbt, in fat, just about anti-every person except the wealthy. It figures that this news media would use Reboot IL -- nice job Richard in un-covering the truth. Too bad for the Patch.
Edward Andrysiak March 02, 2014 at 08:09 PM
Let's keep this real simple...if you think a poor person will hire you, vote for one. If you think a rich person needs help keeping or earning more money and might hire people, vote for a rich, successful person!
jim March 02, 2014 at 09:35 PM
DEBRA Perhaps we need in Illinois is people like you to check facts and spelling

S: Its one thing to say Reboot Illinois is non-partisan, its another thing to demonstrate it. Reboot Illinois regularly expresses GOP sentiments and the Griffins and Crowns buy politicians like most of us buy a cup of coffee.
Grumpy Old Man March 03, 2014 at 08:15 AM
The class warriors are out. Reboot obviously presents nothing but GOP sentiments as in the recent debate over whether there should be a progressive income tax or a flat tax. The Democratic legislator supporting the progressive model must have been a shill for the GOP! Public employee unions and elected public officials are hogs at the trough getting their retirements at the ripe old age of 55, double dipping like Daley and agreeing with the idiots in Springfield to not fund the pension system. Voila, a pension mess. You can defend them all you want, and don't start whining about police and firefighters. Although my original post may not have specified, I am all in favor of first responders receiving a pension. The rest, including our beloved elected leaders, the real hogs at the trough, deserve to receive social security which they can start receiving at age 66 or whenever the current age provided by law kicks in, or at 62 with a reduced pension, like all of the rest of us. I am no out and out supporter of Rauner or any of the current runners. But Quinn, no way Jose. I may have to vote GOP by default.
Richard Biegaj March 03, 2014 at 08:23 AM
Grumpy Old Man: The only part of your post that I agree with implicitly is that our elected leaders are the real hogs at the trough. OK, go back to bed, old-timer.
jim March 03, 2014 at 08:37 AM
Richard Perhaps you should try that link.

Reboot Illinois founder Anne Dias Griffin and her husband Kenneth, founder and chief executive of Citadel LLC, are among the largest donors to the Illinois Republican Party. The Griffins also have given approximately $1.5 million over time to David and Charles Koch's conservative causes, which operate under the umbrella Americans for Prosperity. Now, tell me again that Reboot Illinois is "non-partisan.
