We pay how much in gas taxes?
Pumping gas into your car and watching the total cost keep going up and up is no fun and takes a bite out of your wallet. But how much of every dollar you spend on gas go to taxes? We've got that answered for you.
We'll start with the good news: Illinois does not have the highest gas tax in the nation. Or the second. Or the third. Or even the fourth.
We have to stop there though. That's right, every time you fill up in the Land of Lincoln, you're paying the fifth-highest gas tax in the nation. And while we're the top state in the Midwest in that regard, drivers may not want to fill up in two states east of us...Indiana and Michigan make an appearance in the top ten as well.
