What Are the Best Health Insurance Plans in Illinois?

Consumer Reports lists the top health insurance plans in Illinois by category to help residents make more informed healthcare choices, while county-by-county housing inventory varies across population.

Following the passage of the Affordable Care Act, many Illinoisans are wondering which health insurance plan makes the most sense for them and their families.

Consumer Reports ranked the best of various health insurance provider categories in the state: Private HMOs, Private PPOs, Medicare HMOs, Medicare PPOs and Medicaid HMOs based on data from the National Committee on Quality Assurance.

They then gave those plans an overall score out of 100 and also measured plans on a scale of one through five based on consumer satisfaction, prevention, treatment and whether or not they were accredited. They also evaluate whether or not the plans are honest, transparent and that their networks contain competent healthcare providers. To be accredited, plans must also hold themselves accountable by reporting their data publicly. Under the new Affordable Care Act, all plans sold through healthcare exchanges must be accredited.

Check out the list to see if your health insurance plan made a top spot or to see which plans you should look for if you're in the market for a new health insurance soon.

Illinoisans are also buying and selling houses throughout the state, residents of some counties more than others. Knowing which counties have the most and least houses for sale per capita can tell a story about the people living in those counties, such as if people are moving around within the county or in and out of it. The top 25 most populous counties in Illinois have very different numbers of houses for sale per capita, from Kankakee to Cook Counties and Kendall to Adams Counties.
