The BGA's volunteer Citizen Watchdog Training is a free program that empowers citizens to keep on eye on their local government and report about what's going on in their local communities. In two training sessions, you'll learn how to examine government and make sure it's operating in a way that's honest, transparent and efficient.
Veteran journalists, investigators and legal professionals will lead sessions on understanding government, the Open Meetings Act, and the Freedom of Information Act.
You'll also hear from local watchdogs making a difference in their communities. This month, national award-winning watchdog, Brian Costin, tells his story of exposing waste and creating more transparency in Schaumburg. He'll also share details of a Local Transparency Project and a 10-Point Transparency Checklist.
