Lewis University's WLRA "To Kill a DJ" for the Family Assistance Fund

Tune into WLRA (88.1 FM) for its annual fundraising broadcast for the Family Assistance Fund at Advocate Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn. The "To Kill a DJ" programming will run from Oct. 24 - Nov. 1. The program raises funds through sponsorship of DJs that take on a non-stop broadcasting shift.

Marc Denson, who stayed on air for 55 non-stop hours, set the Lewis University broadcasting record in March 2010. This year, DJs Josh Bowen of Romeoville and Courtney Everett of Palos Park will be broadcasting side-by-side for 72 straight hours without sleep or breaking Oct. 29 – Nov. 1.

Visit www.wlraradio.com to find out how to donate funds. Listeners can tune into WLRA five ways—tuning radio to 88.1 FM, listen to the live streaming on www.lewisu.edu and www.shoutcast.com, visit the iTunes store, or download the free iTunes application for mobile devices.

Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn was the first children's hospital to be built in the Chicago area in nearly 30 years when it opened in 1996. Located on the campus of Advocate Christ Medical Center, the facility has 45 private inpatient rooms, a 12-bed pediatric intensive care unit, and a seven-bed pediatric surgical heart unit. It is a major referral center in northern Illinois and Indiana for pediatric patients requiring the most advanced care. Hope Children's Hospital is part of Advocate Health Care, recognized as a leading national healthcare network.

Lewis University has raised more than $37,000 for Hope Children's Hospital. The donations are used to assist families of hospitalized children in their greatest time of need. In the past, the funds were used to pay for transportation for children receiving outpatient services, medicine, clothing items, hotel rooms for families, bus passes, and airline flights. In Spring 2010, a combined effort of Lewis University College of Nursing and Health Professions and WLRA raised a record $2,600 for the Hope Children's Hospital Family Assistance Fund program.
