Former Students Hold Vigil for District 146 Teacher Mark Reilly

Former students of District 146 teacher Mark Reilly held a candlelight vigil Monday night outside Memorial School. Reilly died Friday after being struck by a train in Tinley Park.

A group of Central Middle School students previously taught by District 146 teacher Mark Reilly gathered Monday night outside Memorial School in Tinley Park for a candlelight vigil to honor their teacher. Reilly died after being struck by a train Friday in Tinley Park. His death was ruled a suicide.

"Mr. Reilly respected all the children, and he was one of the most important people at Memorial," said former student and Central Middle School sixth grader Madison Mazibrook.

Madison organized the vigil, rallying her fellow students to show their love for the District 146 teacher of nine years.

"i'm proud of her, and all these kids for showing their support," said Colleen Mazibrook, Madison's mother. "I just want them to be courageous during through this event."

Some of the students were in Reilly's class in 2010, others as recently as last year. Each lit a candle and signed a photo of Reilly.

"He helped kids through hard times," Madison said. "I thought he needed to be remembered for who he was."
