Mark Your Calendar: District 140 Dates to Remember

The start of the school year is here, and Patch lists some of the significant days for Kirby schools at the beginning of the year.

Believe it or not, the first day of school is right around the corner.

And there's more to do than just show up when classes start. Here's a list of some important dates for students attending the schools in .

Wednesday, Aug. 15

  • Grissom Middle School: Parent/Student Walk-Throughs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 16

  • At Risk Pre-School Screening
    • All screenings will be held at . provides a screening for children who will be 3 years old or older prior to the opening day of school. Results of these screenings are used to identify students who might be at risk of developing difficulties with school and to identify students for further evaluation if a disability is suspected. For more info or to make an appointment, call the Department of Special Services at 708-532-8537.
  • School Supply Kit Pick-Ups
    • Kindergarten only: 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Fernway.
    • Grades 1-5: 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Fernway.
    • : 10 a.m. to noon. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • : 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
    • : 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Kindergarten Round-ups (Includes Early Childhood Students) from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at McAuliffe, , Fernway and Keller elementary schools.
  • PTO Parent Information Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bannes Elementary.
  • Board of Education Meeting at 7 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 21

  • Open Houses
    • Fernway: PTO events from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and classroom events from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • Keller: PTO pre-open house from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., general open house from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • Bannes: 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
    • McAuliffe: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    • Millennium: 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 

Wednesday Aug. 22

  • First day of school for grades kindergarten through eighth; early dismissal.
  • Boo Hoo Breakfasts
    • Bannes: 8:05 a.m.
    • Millennium: 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
  • Open Houses
    • Prairie View Middle School: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
    • Grissom Middle School: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 23

  • First full day for all students
  • Picture day at Prairie View and Grissom middle schools.
  • PTO Meeting at 9 a.m. at Millennium Elementary School.
