New Board Member Sworn in; Former Member Thanks D161 Community

The Summit Hill school board Monday approved Denise Wildeveld to fill the seat recently vacated by Dee Molinare, who was honored by the board and superintendent.

It was about hellos and goodbyes for some of Wednesday's board meeting.

Denise Wildeveld was approved by the board and sworn in as its new member, replacing Dee Molinare, .

The board voted 5-1 to appoint Wideveld, with board member Sean William Doyle dissenting. Doyle said after the meeting that his objection to the appointment was over the process and not Wildeveld's qualifications. . . Doyle said the fair and objective approach would have been for the board should have interviewed all the applicants, not just a select few.

At the beginning of the meeting, the board and Superintendent Barb Rains recognized Molinare's 10 years of service on the D161 board and presented her with a plaque and a nameplate.

"On behalf of the board and administration, thank you for your work and dedication to the students and family of 161," Rains said.

Molinare also took time to express her gratitude to the parents and district residents in attendance.

"I just wanted to thank the community for supporting me," she said. "It's been a privilege and an honor to serve on the 161 board. ... We accomplished so much. It has been a terrific journey, and I thank you all, and I feel like I've worked with the best of the best, and it's truly been a privilege."

@CJS and @get real: I've confirmed that board members Sean William Doyle and George Perros did not attend the closed session at the Jan. 4 special meeting. I don't know if they participated in the process to narrow down the 14 applicants to three candidates. Because it was done by rating each applicant on a points system, the candidates did those ratings on their own time and passed them on to board President Mary Kenny, I believe. Thank you Joe. Didn't Doyle vote no for Denise? I wonder why he was not at the special meeting if he did not want her.

@get real: Doyle did vote no for Denise. But he said it was a vote against the process, not the candidate. Doyle said he thought all 14 applicants should have been interviewed, not just a select few. I compared it to his no vote for hiring Barb Rains, and he said that that was accurate, but he was glad that with the open seat, the board took applications and interviewed candidates. Thanks again. To me it seems like Doyle still could of cared to interview those few. Ever since the 2 old board members got replaced he now does not like anything the board does.
