A teacher's life was saved last week after she suddenly collapsed to the floor during class.

A middle school nurse saved a local schoolteacher last week who spontaneously collapsed in her classroom and wasn't registering a pulse.

The teacher, whose name hasn't been released, was taken to Palos Community Hospital after the Friday incident, according to a story in Triblocal. She was sitting in a chair in her classroom when she fell to the floor.

"The (automated defibrillator) was used on her because I did not feel a pulse,” school nurse Anne Connelly-Mitros said to Triblocal. “We were very organized and it worked out very well.”

Superintendent Mike Byrne said he was thankful for the quick thinking of the school’s staff and for the defibrillator.

“It seems to me it really prevented something that could have been tragic,” he said. “We’re glad the AEDs are here and they did what they were supposed to do.”
