The Patch Hatch 2: What Did Readers Name The Classroom Chick?

The Facebook fans have spoken and Mrs. Rankin's fifth-grade class has picked the best name for one of the classroom chicks.

King Tut! King Tut! King Tut!

That's the name a Patch reader suggested that passed muster with Deb Rankin's fifth-grade class at for one of their baby chicks.

Congratulations to Facebook fan Denise Osborn Drake for picking King Tut's new name!

Drake suggested King Tut and also Kahmunrah, Hank Azaria's evil pharoah in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, "since he looks like an Egyptian with the black eye markings."

Here's how the class voted on the Facebook fans' suggestions:

King Tut – 17
Dudley – 15
Thor – 14
Sheldon – 12
Stanley – 11
Kuiken (Dutch for "chick") – 10
Kahmunrah – 9
Joplin (in honor of the victims of the recent tornado in Joplin, Mo.) – 8
WALL·E – 5
Peepers – 4
Patches – 4
Mugsy (and this is too bad because I really liked this name) – 2

The kids also really liked my suggestion of "Wydid," as in "Wydid the Chicken ... cross the road?" but we'll call that an honorary mention.

Special thanks to Deb Rankin, Southwest Chicago Christian and the entire fifth-grade class, including amateur cameraboy Brian Conley, who shot the classroom vote for the video above.
