TPHS Fundraiser Means Day on Roof For "Lucky" Staffer: VIDEO

Students raised more than $3,000 for Special Olympics in a contest to vote for which staffer would spend the day on the roof.

Counseling Intern Simeon Pak was told it would just be two hours.

"Then Principal Nolan told me, 'No, you'll be up here all day,'" Pak chuckled as he looked down on the senior cookout from atop the school's roof.

Pak, 25, was the "winner" of the Titan on Top fundraiser, where students voted by donation to see which staffer would get to spend all school day Thursday on the roof. The school raised more than $3,000 for the Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Titan on Top winner was Pak, the school's "Red Card Man." , a student who misses an assignment gets a chance to turn it in later for reduced credit – after a call directly from Pak to the student's parents telling them about the missing work.

"Half of our student body and their parents got to know Mr. Pak very well," said Assistant Principal Rhonda Cracco.

Cracco said Pak has taken initiative no previous intern has.

"No one has made the impact on our student body that Simeon has had," she said.

As the seniors in the courtyard below ate hot dogs and burgers cooked by teachers and administrators, Pak walked the roof, often waving the sign to the cheers of the seniors, but mostly just hanging out.

All day.

"If it rains, he has to stay up there," Principal Theresa Nolan said by phone the day before. "If it starts to lightning, he can come down."
