Hastings: Matteson Public Library to receive Project Next Generation grant

MATTESON – At-risk students will soon have another opportunity to learn and close the technological gap thanks to the Project Next Generation grant and State Senator Michael Hastings (D-Matteson) says that the Matteson Public Library will receive $17,420, with the money going to after school programs and technological equipment.

“Public libraries are incredible institutions of learning, especially for individuals who are at a disadvantage,” Hastings said. “I enjoyed going to the library as a child, and I am excited that this grant will be available to the young people in my district.”

Project Next Generation is an initiative of the Secretary of State. The grant is awarded to 15 of the 30 libraries that applied. Libraries were required to apply for the grant, which is funded with federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The awarded grants are aimed at closing the gap among impoverished and at-risk students who lack the opportunity to learn in a safe and fun environment.
