Andrew Girls Engage in Their Own Kind of Kick Back Effort

Thunderbolts are soccer athletes one minute, community volunteers the next.

The Andrew girls varsity soccer team is using unselfish play to rack up victories on the field.

Most recently, the Thunderbolts blanked Lincoln-Way Central 3-0 to remain unbeaten in conference play.

The altruism is spilling over to their off-field lives as well. Andrew's girls recently gave up some practice time to volunteer at the Restoration Ministries in Harvey. The Ministry provides an after-school meal and a place for young students to finish their schoolwork and participate in sports or games.

The T-Bolts helped the children, ranging from kindergarten to eighth grade, finish their homework and then showed off their soccer skills in a playful scrimmage.

Andrew’s Marissa Ripoli and Sam Labus scored points for their team to help the T-Bolts win the Southwest Suburban Red conference title.

Tinley Seniors Dominate Senior Night

The Tinley Park girls soccer team exploded for six goals in a win against conference rival Bremen on Saturday. It was only fitting, being that it was Senior Night, every goal and assist was delivered by a senior.  Scorers included Kacie Doorn, Liz Kopecky, Annalena Lindner and Kelsie Neylon.

Saint Xavier Preseason No. 2, Features Tinley Athletes

The Saint Xavier University football team recently garnered a No. 2 preseason ranking in NAIA polls. The Cougars finished 13-1 last year.

Four Tinley Park residents are listed on the Saint Xavier roster: Mike Bushnell, Andrew Howe, A.J. Nichols and Nick DeBenedetti.  The Cougars kick off their season on Sept. 3 against Olivet Nazarene University.
