Athlete of the Week: Andrew Volleyball's Maureen Carls Brings Her 'A' Game

T-Bolts' senior outside hitter Maureen Carls has powered Andrew to a strong start in girls volleyball.

The Andrew girls volleyball team delivered the goods coming out of the gate, compiling a 6-1 record to start the season. After dispatching of Homewood-Flossmoor 25-22, 25-12 last week, the T-Bolts climbed to No. 4 in Patch's Weekly Power Rankings.

Much of the T-Bolts early success can be attributed to senior outside hitter Maureen Carls, who recorded eight assists, five blocks, three aces and 11 digs against the Vikings. Andrew coach Courtney Stoub is pleased with the all-around play of her senior leader.

“Carls is a natural volleyball player," Stoub said. "She just explodes on the court and has a very dynamic hit along with her jump (serve). She is just a great overall player for us.”
