Athlete of the Week: Christner's Booming Bat Drove Andrew Deep into Postseason

Kelly Christner helped the T-Bolts softball team to the sectional finals.

Clutch hitting is one of many facets to Andrew center fielder Kelly Christner’s game, but during postseason play, it’s been her strength.

Facing a tough Lincoln-Way East squad for a regional title, Christner blasted her fifth homer of the year, a two-run shot over the right-field wall, to propel the Thunderbolts to a 2-0 win.

Christner wouldn’t have to wait long to show off her bat again. Facing Homewood-Flossmoor in the sectional semifinals, Christner went 4-for-4, knocking in two runs from the plate and scoring twice. Christner scored the game-winning run, as

“I just wanted to stay stay aggressive and aim for base hits,” Christner said.

but Christner did her best to keep the season alive. She  singled and scored the team's only run.
