Baseball: Tinley Park's Glowicki Mows Down Oak Forest

Zach Glowicki was on top of his game. And No. 9 hitter Tommy Loranger enjoyed a moment in the sun, too.

Glowicki, a senior right-hander, tossed a three-hitter and struck out three in Tinley Park's 3-0 baseball victory over Oak Forest on Monday afternoon in Tinley Park. He walked one and allowed one extra-base hit, a double by Jason Hine with two outs in the fifth.

Hine was thrown out trying to stretch the hit to a triple as Tinley Park's Mitch Smith connected with Titan third baseman Zach Moravec on a bang-bang play.

"That was big, it took them out of that inning," Tinley Park coach Brian Gibbons said.

Just as big was Glowick's approach on the mound.

"He got ahead of all of the hitters, which is somehting we preach to all of our kids," Gibbons said. "In the early part of the season, he was having some trouble on two-strike pitches. He was making some mistakes and getting roughed up a bit.

"Today, his two-strike pitches were out of the zone. He was on top of his game. It's the best game I've seen him pitch."

Tinley Park (8-7, 3-2) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of fifth. Loranger's two-out single scored Brandon Stewart from second base. When the throw home squirted under the fence, Loranger went all the way to third on the play. He scored on a wild pitch.

The Titans added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Smith walked and stole second. He scored on a two-out RBI single by Josh Nardaiz. Brian Richard pitched 5-plus inning for the Bengals.

The two teams complete their two-game series with a rematch at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Oak Forest.
