Bears to Stage Youth Football Camp in Tinley

Program director Tom Finks "thrilled" to bring Bears non-contact camp to Southwest Chicago Christian School from July 11-15.

The Bears are coming to Tinley Park.

Southwest Chicago Christian School of Tinley Park will play host to a Chicago Bears Youth Football Camp from July 11-15.

Bears Youth Football Camps teach safe, non-contact football skills to children from ages 6-14.

"We are thrilled to be in Tinley Park with Southwest Chicago Christian School," program director Tom Finks said in a news release. "Our goal is to make high-quality, non-contact camps available and in convenient locations.

"Southwest Chicago Christian School has provided a great youth camp atmosphere and we are grateful for the opportunity."

Bears Youth Football Camps are led by professional educators with high school or college coaching experience. Chris Hart will direct the Tinley Park program with support from Bears alumni heroes such as Allan Ellis, Kris Haines, Al Harris, Jim Morrissey and Revie Sorey.

The non-contact format provides an opportunity for both experienced players and newsomers to participate. Experienced flag or tackle football players sharpen their skills, while others see the camps as a great way to to cross train and build new athletic skills.

Legreid Leads Tinley Golfers in Southtown Challenge

Three residents of Tinley Park competed in the Southtown Challenge Junior Golf Championship on Tuesday in Glenwood. The 23rd annual Challenge was held at the Glenwoodie Golf Course, with boys and girls competing in age divisions of 13-15 and 16-18.

In the boys 16-18 division, Tinley Park's Alex Legreid shot 87, and Carl Evans III finished just behind at 89. In the 13-15 age division, Tinley Park's Brandon Legreid shot at 111.

 The boys played the course to a length of 6,242 yards at par of 72.

Thunder Swimmers Fare Well in Dr Pepper Meet

The Tinley Park Thunder swim team recently competed in the Dr Pepper Super Swim Meet at the University of Illinois-Chicago. With more than 25 swim teams from the surrounding area on hand, the competition was stiff.

The top individual performers for the Thunder were in the boys 15-over age group. Tyler Bettenhausen finished fourth in the 1500-meter freestyle with a time of 23:15.  Kevin Hesse finished 10th in the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 2:37 and 11th in the 100 backstroke at 1:10.

Dr Pepper presented every heat winner a two-liter bottle of the their soda. Some of the Thunder swimmers went home with as many as four bottles.
