Boys Basketball: Tinley Park Staves off Oak Forest

Tinley Park 67. Oak Forest 59. Andrew Sebastian scores 12 points as Titans hold on for victory over Bengals on Tuesday night.

The Hot Read: Oak Forest, after falling behind early in a 67-59 boys basketball loss to rival Tinley Park on Tuesday night,  tried to claw its way back. For a while, it looked like the Bengals had a good shot. Even though the Titans led 36-28 at the half, Oak Forest didn't give up. Tinley Park's lead was trimmed to 49-43 at the end of the third quarter. And Oak Forest's string of early fourth-quarter points allowed the Bengals to take a 50-49 lead. But, in the end, it wasn't enough.

Patch's MVP: Tinley Park's Andrew Sebastian (12 points). Sebastian drained a three-pointer in the second quarter which helped the Titans jump out to a 24-16 lead.

Key Stats: Both teams had opportunities in the second half. Tinley Park was charged with nine foulds, but Oak Forest went 5-of-14 from the free throw in the second half. The Titans, on the other hand, were able to capitalize on Oak Forest's 10 fouls, going 8-for-14 from the line.

Quotable I: Oak Forest coach Matt Manzke on his team's effort. "I thought our guys played extremely hard and with a huge amount of heart. I'm really proud of the way we played. I'm just disappointed in the score."

Quotable II: Tinley Park coach D.J. Brown: "We were flat. I think Oak Forest outworked us for a full game. I don't think we really showed up as well as we did last Tuesday. Our intensity was lower, our energy was lower, and I think Oak Forest capitalized a lot on our lack of intensity."

Team Records: Tinley Park, 14-7 and 9-3 in the South Suburban Blue.  Oak Forest, 5-18 and 1-11.

What's Next: The Titans will travel to Marist to take on the RedHawks on Saturday. Oak Forest will host Thornton Fractional North on Friday night.
