5K Run/Walk Provides Educational Services to Children in Poverty

Avid runners, student athletes, and friends and families with hearts for helping children—Register today for the 2nd Annual Light and Leadership 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, April 21, at Yankee Woods, 165th and Central, in Tinley Park, IL. Check-in starts at 8:15 a.m., the 5K starts at 9 a.m.

Funds raised by the 5K Run/Walk help the Tinley Park-based non-profit provide free educational services to children and women in some of the poorest areas of Peru. Services include after-school classes and field trips for children and computer courses and seminars for women.

5K Run/Walk Information: 
Check-in at 8:15 a.m.; run starts at 9 a.m. 
ADULTS – Register by April 14: $30; after April 14: $35 
STUDENTS – Register by April 14: $20; after April 14: $25 (Students must show valid ID.)

8-week Training Program Tweets

Meet Our Founder 
Executive Director and founder Lara DeVries graduated from Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights. She first visited Peru in 2007 and volunteered in a shantytown in Lima. She returned to the States with a passion to help the people of Huaycan and founded the Light and Leadership Initiative. Lara is a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago, IL. She currently lives in Lima, Peru.
