Football: Tinley Park Dismantles Bogan in Season Opener

Tinley Park 54, Bogan 6: Titans quarterback Kyle Sheridan leads a potent offensive attack behind a mauling offensive line in an impressive season debut.

Breaking It Down: jumped out to an early lead behind returning All-Conference quarterback Kyle Sheridan and never looked back in a 54-6 victory over visiting Bogan in the season opener. Sheridan, who rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more, scored on a 61-yard scamper on the second play of the game. The Tinley Park offensive line continued the onslaught, opening up huge holes for the ground attack as the Titans built a 47-6 halftime lead. With three Tinley Park running backs sharing the rock, the Titans totaled 392 yards on the ground. The Tinley defense was stout all night, shutting down the Bogan ground game and picking off quarterback Terrence Wafford twice.

Patch’s MVP: The Tinley Park offensive line. Seniors Robert Garncarski, Christopher Clarke and Zachary Webster anchored a rugged group that opened huge holes for the Titans ground game and gave Sheridan time to deliver from the pocket when he stepped back to pass.

Tinley Park Stat Pack: QB Kyle Sheridan (7-of-8, 145 yards, 2 touchdowns) was efficient all night, and he used his feet to get the Titans on the board with a 61-yard touchdown run. Running backs Preston Thompson (8 carries, 126 yards, 2 touchdowns), Morgan Davis (12 carries, 105 yards, TD), Gregory Wallace (6 carries, 72 yards, touchdown) carved up the Bogan defense.

Bogan Stat Pack: QB Terrance Wafford (16-of-32, 150 yards, touchdown, 2 INTs) threw accurate passes when given time by his offensive line, but he was harassed most of the night by the Tinley Park defensive line. Wide receiver Quintin Stephens (3 catches, 20 yards, TD) had the lone score for the Bengals.

Quotable I: Titans coach Nick Johnston: “It was everything you could ask for in a first game: solid defense, good blocking up front, and we forced turnovers.”

Quotable II: Tinley Park quarterback Kyle Sheridan: “Getting the first one under our belt feels great. Our plays are designed to get the ball to the open side of the field and we took advantage of it. We had a lot of confidence coming in.”

Team Records: Tinley Park is 1-0. Chicago Bogan is 0-1.

What’s Next: Both schools play Friday, Sept. 2. Tinley Park hosts Rich East and Bogan moves on to face Edwardsville.
