Gimme 5: Andrew's Bria Caught the Baseball Bug at a Young Age

Thunderbolts senior credits his parents with helping nurture his love for the game.

Baseball isn't just a game to Andrew senior Phil Bria. It’s a passion, and it's in his blood.

Bria first picked up a baseball bat at the age of 4, when he joined the T-ball team that his dad coached. Ever since then, the sport has been an important part of his life.

"I've played it all my life," he said. "I just love the sport, so I stuck with it."

Bria, who plays shortstop and second base for Andrew, said he couldn't have made it to this level in his baseball career without the support of his parents.

"My mom has pushed me to do well in school and sports," he said. "She's always been there for me whenever I needed to talk to someone. My dad started me in baseball and has been a role model for me as a coach. He's always given me inspiration to play."

Even when Bria isn't on the field, baseball is often on his mind. In his free time, he likes to hang out with friends and practice his baseball skills for the upcoming season.

Bria plans to continue his baseball career at Elmhurst College when he graduates from Andrew. He said he plans on majoring in physical therapy.
