Gimme 5: No Messing With Thunder Assistant Swim Coach Mensing
Tinley Park Thunder assistant Dan Mensing explains what he likes about coaching and talks about what he does for fun away from his swim team.
The Tinley Park Thunder swim club dominanated in its recent conference meet. The Thunder captured both the boys and girls titles of the South Suburban Swim Conference. After a highly successful season, assistant coach Dan Mensing played a game of question & answer.
Mensing, in his second year helping coach the swim club, once was a powerful swimmer himself. He helped lead Tinley Park High School to back-to-back conference swim titles.
"Swimming is something I've always enjoyed doing," he said. "I just like to be active."

When not in the pool, Mensing said he likes to spend his summer around the grill and following the Cubs. He pleaded his case for choosing the North Side team over the South Side White Sox.
"We just have more fun," he said. "The final score doesn't matter. It's all about what you do at the game."
